WPSD SPECIAL "RACING TO MARCH" PREVIEW SHOW
When the Ohio Valley Conference held it's annual media day (Oct. 25) at the new home of the league's post-season tournament, Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., MSU was again the favorite in voting conducted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. It marked the third straight season MSU has been picked no. 1 and for the first time since 1996, the Racers placed four players on the All-OVC Preseason Team.
Seniors Isacc Miles and B.J. Jenkins are on the team, along with junior Ivan Aska and sophomore Isaiah Canaan. Aska and Canaan also make up the last two OVC Freshman of the Year winners in the OVC.This quartet represents 53 percent of MSU's scoring from last season as Jenkins, Canaan and Aska finished 1-2-3 in scoring for the team. Together they have 226 games of experience in a Racer uniform.
After putting together the best season in the history of the program in 2009-10, with a 31-5 record and a win over Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament, the Racers are indeed being noticed in the preseason by a variety of national media.
The biggest attention so far has been in the two prominent national polls where MSU has received votes. MSU got 15 votes in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll and are 35th. MSU received four votes in the ESPN-USA Today Coaches Poll and are 43rd.
The Racers were also selected fifth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll (They finished sixth last season), 35th by The Sporting News, 37th by SportsBank.net, 41st by CollegeHoops.net and 47th by CollegeInsider.com
