Box Score
The Racers (2-7, 0-2 OVC) were led by junior Kayla Lowe and sophomore Mariah Robinson. Lowe tallied seven points and added eight rebounds while Robinson garnered eight.
The Boilermakers (5-3) opened the first half with a 3-0 run before the Racers were able to get on the scoreboard. Mariah Robinson tallied the first five points for MSU and helped the Racers tie the game at five, with 15:20 remaining. The teams kept it close, for the next few minutes while both teams struggled to hit their shots. It was Purdue that made the first move and went on a 5-0 run to take control of the score for the rest of the game. MSU kept the lead within single digits until late in the half. The Boilermakers went on a 13-2 run, with 7:30 left in the stanza, to end the half with a 30-14 advantage.
Purdue kept up the pressure in the second half and opened the stanza with a 14-0 run. The Racers were held without a field goal in the half for the first six minutes. Poor shooting kept MSU to just 11 points in the half, while the Boilermakers hit 65.5 percent of their shots in the 20-minute period.
After shooting over 40 percent in the last two games, the Racers struggled to find their offensive stride against Purdue, shooting just 12.2 percent from the field and 15.0 from beyond the arc. The Boilermakers shot 52.6 percent from the field and were 1-of-12 from three-point range. Turnovers were a key to the game, as MSU tallied 28 and Purdue garnered 29 points off Racers' turnovers.
After a month absence from the CFSB Center, the Racers will return home to host Southern Illinois, Saturday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. MSU then returns to the road for one game, at UT Martin (Dec. 22), before hosting the longest home stand of the season, four games. The home stand will begin with SIU-Edwardsville (Dec. 30) and end with Austin Peay (Jan. 8).
Notes: This is just the second team from the Big Ten that the Racers have faced in their 45 seasons of play…the only other team from the Big Ten that MSU has faced was Indiana, 30-years to the day from today's game (Dec. 12, 1980)…the Racers earned a 71-56 win in Martin, Tenn….freshman Mary Jehlik earned her first career start.
