Prohm Era Begins - Racers Host Bethel In Exhibition Game

The Murray State Racers host the Bethel Wildcats in an exhibition game (Nov. 8) at the CFSB Center in a 7 p.m. tip which will mark the beginning of the 2011-12 season.
As the Racers begin their 87th season of college basketball, many changes have come to pass since the Racers won their second straight (22nd overall) Ohio Valley Conference Regular season title in the 2010-11 season. MSU was 23-9 and played in the National Invitational Tournament.
Steve Prohm is MSU's 15th coach in the grand history of the program. Prohm was promoted to head coach in late May when his mentor Billy Kennedy accepted the head coaching position at Texas A&M. Prohm joins 52 others as new head coaches in NCAA D-I hoops in the 2011-12 season.
The Racers' senior class for 2011-12 is a group of three that have shown to be tremendously reliable players with excellent leadership qualities. Ivan Aska (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Jewuan Long (Jackson, Tenn.) and Donte Poole (Las Vegas, Nev.) have combined to lead MSU to a 73-26 (.737) record since 2008 including two OVC regular season championships and back-to-back postseason appearances with a spot in the 2010 NCAA Tournament and the National Invitational Tournament in 2011. The trio has combined for 1,777 points and 898 rebounds in 283 games.
The Racers enter the 2011-12 season with eyes on winning their third straight Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship. MSU's 22 titles and 14 tournament titles
(including 14 NCAA appearances) are tops in the league. Since 1990, MSU's 11 league titles are tied for second in the nation with Duke and Gonzaga and trails only Kentucky with 12.
When it comes to consistent performance, the Racers rank among the best in the game. Murray State's current streak of 24 consecutive winning seasons is tied with Connecticut for the fourth longest current streak and trails only Syracuse (41), Kansas (28) and Arizona (27).
