Racers Remain Undefeated In 17 Point Win Against Dayton

Murray State remained undefeated Sunday afternoon, running away with a 17 point 75-58 victory against Dayton on its home court at the CFSB Center.
Isaiah Canaan led the Racers (9-0) in points for the seventh time this season, scoring a game-high 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. He was 5-of-8 from behind the three-point line as the Racers were a combined 9-of-15 (60 percent) from three.
The Racers took a 29-23 lead into halftime, and pushed the advantage out to 17 points with 11:12 remaining in the second half.
The Flyers would score the game's next seven points over the next three minutes before MSU would go on to score seven straight of its own to lock up the victory.
Latreze Mushatt added 14 points off the bench for MSU on 6-of-8 shooting and five rebounds, and Ivan Aska scored 13, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
The Racers won the battle of the boards 27-25 and forced the Flyers into 17 turnovers which created 18 points.
GAME NOTES
The Racers are now 9-0 and off to their best start since the 1998-99 team did the same. The best starts in the 87 years of MSU Basketball are 12-0 from the 1936-37 team and 1950-51 team. The all-time best mark for MSU is 16-0 by the 1935-36 squad coached by the first Racer coach, Carlisle Cutchin.
The 9-0 start for Coach Steve Prohm is tied for the best start for a first year MSU coach with Tevester Anderson (now at Jackson State) from the 1998-99 season.
Isaiah Canaan drew closer to becoming the 38th member of the MSU 1000-Point Club. After 21 points today, Canaan has 931. Teammate Ivan Aska became the 37th member of the club (Nov. 23) in the Great Alaska Shootout when MSU defeated San Francisco.
MSU's non-conference winning streak in the CFSB Center is now 13 since their last loss to Louisiana Tech in the BracketBuster (Feb. 21, 2009). MSU is 63-9 in 14 seasons in the arena for a winning percentage of .875. MSU's overall win streak at home is now 10.
The Racers continue to have a great season from the free throw line. After a 10-of-12 day Sunday. MSU is 159-of-200 for 79 percent and leads the Ohio Valley Conference. MSU was third in the nation last week in NCAA D-I.
The Racers have the coming week off to concentrate on final exams. MSU returns to action Sunday (Dec. 11) against the Memphis Tigers at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn.
