Murray State could not complete the weekend sweep over Bowling Green as the Breds fell 4-2 in a seven-inning rain-shortened game Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Breds (2-5) got on the board in the first inning as Brandon Elliott was grazed by a pitch and sacrificed to second by Ty Stetson. Following a wild pitch, Elliott scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Jacob Rhodes.
The Falcons (1-5) tied the game in the fourth as Patrick Lancaster singled to right center and stole second. After a groundout advanced the runner to third, a wild pitch scored the run with two outs.
BGSU took advantage of a throwing error in the fifth inning to push across a pair of unearned runs. With a runner on first and one out, Logan Walker's grounder to third was thrown away at first, putting runners on second and third. A grounder to first eliminated the first runner at the plate, but Patrick Martin followed with a two-run triple to left center.
MSU got one run back in the fifth as Elliott walked and Stetson singled through the left side with one out. With two outs, Rhodes plated his second run of the game with a single just inside the bag at third.
The Falcons pushed another run across in the sixth as Frank Berry doubled to right center and went third on a groundout to the right side. Ryan Schlater scored the run with the perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt.
Tyler Beers (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits over six innings. Charles Wooten (1-1) picked up the victory after allowing two runs on four hits and seven strikeouts over five innings. Matt Malewicz (1) was credited with the save after allowing one hit in his one inning of work.
Stetson and Travis Isaak each went 2-for-3. Rhodes drove in both MSU runs, while Elliott scored both runs.
The Breds return to action Wednesday afternoon as they play host to Arkansas State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Reagan Field.
