“I like the competitive energy that we had today,” said head coach Connie Keasling. “We have had good energy in the last two matches; we just need to work on making the correct adjustments when needed in the matches.”
The Racers (1-4) saw singles wins from sophomore Ashley Canty and a default win by freshman Carla Suga. Canty defeated Anita Lee at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-4, 6-2. Suga was ahead 4-2 in the first set at No. 6 singles when Vishakha Sheoran retired.
In doubles Suga teamed with freshman Taylor Vick defeated Lee and Sheoran at No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
MSU will now hit the road for a month, including four matches next week in Arkansas. The Racers will first travel to Jonesbork, Ark., to play Arkansas State March 2, then move on to face Central Arkansas and Harding March 3 before ending the trip in Little Rock, Ark., to battle Arkansas-Little Rock March 4.
“Our upcoming matches are all outside,” Keasling said. “The key now is going to watch how we compete outside compared to how we competed inside.”
