Women’s Tennis Falls to Jacksonville State

The Racers (3-7) saw the strongest performances from junior Cassidy Cunitz, senior Lindsey Wiseman and freshman Carla Suga. All three players forced their singles matches into three sets before falling. Cunitz lost 6-4 in the first set at No. 1 singles to Marani Vivane and then rebounded with a 6-4 win in set two, but fell 6-1 in the final set. Wiseman earned her win at No. 4 singles in the first set (6-4), before falling 6-1, 6-2 in the final two sets. Suga battled Kelly Tomlin at No. 6 singes, falling 6-4 in set one, earning a 6-4 win in set two and then falling in a tie-breaker (7-6(7-4)) in the third set.
“Despite the loss it was a great way to start to conference season,” said head coach Connie Keasling. “Jacksonville State played with high energy so it was a great collegiate experience. That really helps you get ready for the rest of the season.”
MSU will remain on the road for five matches before returning home. The Racers travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face Samford at 2:30 p.m.
