Racers Rebound with Win Over George Mason

MSU started the match on the right track, winning the doubles point after taking all three doubles matches. Senior Alexis Webb and freshman Carla Suga were the first to finish in double play at No. 2 doubles, earning an 8-2 win over Yasmin Fotovat and Alison Wingo.
The duo of senior Lindsey Wiseman and freshman Taylor Vick sealed the point for the Racers at No. 3 doubles, with an 8-5 win over Ashley Delaney and Brooke Blackwell. Sophomore Ashley Canty and junior Cassidy Cunitz earned the win at No. 1 doubles over Kiersten Papas and Lindsay Gray, 8-6, making it a clean sweep.
“Winning the doubles point got us started and in the right frame of mind right away,” said head coach Connie Keasling. “Everyone played smart and competitive today. The whole team rose to the occasion in competitive situations and competed at a high level throughout the match.”
Junior Ashley Pierson was the first to finish in the singles play, earning a 6-3, 6-0 win over Aryn Christman at No. 6 singles. Webb made the score 3-0, for MSU, with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Delaney at No. 4 singles.
The Patriots lone point came in the next singles match to finish (No. 2), making the score 3-1. Cunitz then sealed the victory for the Racers at No. 1 singles, with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-1 win against Papas. Wiseman and Suga also earned wins for MSU at No. 3 (6-2,6-3) and No. 5 (7-5, 3-6, 10-7) singles, respectively, to make the final score 6-1.
The Racers have two more road matches this week before hosting their first outdoor match of the season. MSU will face Emory, Thursday, March 17 at 3 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga. The Racers will end their road trip at Alabama-Birmingham, Friday, March 18 at 11 a.m.
