Freshman Carla Suga picked up the lone win for MSU, defeating Rachel Cohen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Junior Cassidy Cunitz and freshman Taylor Vick also fought hard, forcing their singles matches to three sets.
Cunitz took the first set at No. 1 singles 6-4 before falling in the next two sets (6-2, 6-1) to Evelien Strijker. Vick went to a tie-breaker in the first set, falling 7-6 and then rebounded to earn a 6-0 win in the second set. Since the outcome of the match was already set, she then played a super tie-breaker with Menanteau Moolman, at No. 5 singles, and fell 10-4.
Vick teamed with senior Lindsey Wiseman at No. 3 doubles and earned a win over Cohen and Moolman (8-3), but it was not enough for the Racers to earn the doubles point.
MSU will now be off until Saturday, March 25 at 2:30 p.m. when they host Eastern Kentucky in the first home outdoor match of the season at Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts. The Racers will also play host to Morehead State, Sunday, March 26 at 10 a.m.
