Women’s Tennis Earns 5-2 Win at Eastern Illinois

“We are excited about the win today,” said head coach Connie Keasling. “It was good to get this win to give us more momentum heading into the OVC Championship.”
MSU started out strong, sweeping the doubles matches to go up 1-0 heading into the singles play. Freshman Taylor Vick and senior Lindsey Wiseman finished first with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Senior Alexis Webb and freshman Carla Suga were the next to finish, with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Ashley Canty and junior Cassidy Cunitz made it a clean sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Webb and Canty then gave the Racers a 3-0 lead with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles. Webb defeated Shannon Brooks (No. 3) 6-1, 6-1 and then Canty finished with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jennifer Kim (No. 2). EIU took No. 1 and No. 4 singles to drop the MSU lead to 3-2, but Wiseman secured the match victory for the Racers with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Annie Egan at No. 5 singles.
MSU will travel to Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, April 10 to complete their match against Morehead State that was started March 26 in Murray, Ky., but postponed due to weather. The match is the final regular season match of the season before the Racers travel to Paducah, Ky., to participate in the OVC Championships, April 15-17 at the Larry Heflin Tennis Center.
