vs. Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles have won five-straight games against the Breds, dating back to the 2009 OVC Tournament. MSU went 2-0-1 against TTU the last time the teams met at Reagan Field in 2009.
Weekend Weather
The weather for the Friday doubleheader is looking good, but the same can't be said for Saturday's season finale. Temperatures are expected to be around 80 degrees Friday, with just a 10% chance of rain. Temps should reach the upper 70s on Saturday, but a 60% chance of rain could affect play.
Senior Day
This weekend marks the final home games for five baseball seniors. The group of Jake Donze, Elliot Frey, Derek Hayden, Zach Noonan and Drew Pixley will play their final games at Johnny Reagan Field.
Slim Tourney Hopes Exist
The Breds enter the weekend with a slim possibility of making the OVC Tournament. MSU needs to sweep Tennessee Tech, and also have Eastern Illinois get swept by Southeast Missouri and UT Martin lose two games to Austin Peay.
Frey All-Time Leader in Games Started
Senior Elliot Frey started his 203rd game of his career Monday at Morehead State, tieing him with Brad Burns for the all-time record. Frey will hold the record all to himself when he takes the field in the series opener against Tennessee Tech. With three games this weekend, Frey will raise his total to 208 career games, one shy of the school record of 209 held by Burns and Tyler Pittman.
200-Hit Club Welcomes New Members
Seniors Elliot Frey and Zach Noonan have roamed the outfield together the past four years. In the second game against Morehead State, the duo joined an exclusive club as they both recorded their 200th hit, becoming the ninth and 10th players to reach the 200-hit club. Noonan currently has 203 hits, while Frey sits at 200.
Noonan Climbs Career Charts
Zach Noonan finds himself climbing the charts in several career offensive catgories at MSU. Entering the final weekend of the season, Noonan ranks fifth in at-bats (676), third in runs scored (152), eighth in hits (203), third in doubles (47) and seventh in total bases (311). His 19 doubles this season are just two of the single-season record set by Tyler Pittman (2006) and Brett McCutchan (2003).
Cole vs. Tech
Pitching coach Chris Cole is in his first season with the Breds, but he will be very familiar with both teams on the field this weekend. Cole spent the past four years as the pitching coach at TTU and had a hand in recruiting a lot of the players on the Golden Eagle roster.
Handlin Earns First Save
Sophomore Will Handlin earned his first collegiate save when he allowed one run on two hits and two strikeouts over 2.1 innings in the victory over Morehead State.
