The Murray State Racers return to the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky., Saturday for a 7 p.m. tip when they host Eastern Illinois. This game will be the second meeting between the two after the Racers took the opener (Dec. 30) 73-40 at EIU. The Racers are coming off an 82-65 win last Saturday at SIUE which marked MSU’s 25th 20-win season. The Racers have already clinched their 25th straight winning season which is tied with UConn for the fourth-best streak in the nation behind only Syracuse, Kansas and Arizona.

The Racers will also try to stay perfect in their 2011-12 season as they enter the EIU game with a historic 20-0 start for rookie head coach Steve Prohm. He is the fourth rookie head coach of the 15 in MSU history to win 20 games. MSU has also set the school record for fastest to 20 wins.

The Racers are into their seventh consecutive week of being ranked in the Associated Press Poll. However, MSU has been ranked higher in the ESPN/USA Today poll for the last four weeks at no. 9 while they’re no. 11 in the AP poll. Either way, the rankings are an all-time high for MSU topping the no. 16 spot they had twice in the early 1950’s. MSU is also the no. 1 team in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll for the first in program history, the first for an OVC team.

MSU became the lone team without a loss last Saturday when Syracuse was defeated at Notre Dame. The Racers’ 20-0 start surpasses the 16-0 start by the 1935-36 team as the best in the program’s 87 seasons. MSU’s 20 straight wins has passed the 17 straight the 2009-10 team won as the school’s all-time win streak.

The Racers have won 16 straight at home since their last loss, which was to EIU (Jan. 20, 2011). MSU is 37-2 (.948) in the CFSB Center in the last three seasons and 49-5 (.907) in the last four seasons. The 8,691 that watched MSU beat TTU (Jan. 14) set the attendance mark at the CFSB center passing the 8,602 that watched the Racers play SE Missouri State (Feb. 11, 1999).

The game with EIU will be the second straight sell-out after MSU also sold out the Tennessee Tech game (Jan. 14). MSU has had four sell-outs in 14 seasons in the CFSB Center with two coming in the first season (1998-99) and two this season.
