The Murray State women's basketball will look to improve on its 1-0 start to a six game home stand when it hosts Lipscomb at the CFSB Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Racers won their second consecutive game and first this season at the CFSB Center on Tuesday night with a convincing 76-62 victory over Evansville. The game was controlled by Murray State from the onset as they held an Evansville team that had scored 15 3-pointers in its previous game to a 1-for-12 performance in the first half.
Meanwhile, the Racers weren't too shabby themselves from behind the arc, as they went 9-for-20 on the night to finish at 45 percent. The Racers led by 15 at the half and led by as many as 18 to start the stanza. The Purple Aces eventually found their offensive stroke in the second half, but MSU matched them virtually point-for-point to hold on for the 14 point win.
The guard play of the Racers was outstanding on the night as the trio of senior Mariah Robinson, junior Erica Burgess and freshman Eika Sisk combined for 65 of MSU's 76 points on the night. Robinson led all scorers in the game with 31, while Burgess and Sisk followed with 21 and 13, respectively.
Monday will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams and the first since 2007. The series is evenly split at 2-2 with each team winning one in Murray and one in Nashville. The Lady Bisons won the first two meeting in January and December of 2001, however the Racers have won the last two encounters in 2006 and 2007.
The Lady Bisons are off to a rough start to the season at 0-3 and have lost the three games by an average of 20.3 points each. Their worst loss was a 64-40 defeat at Gardner-Webb to open the year, while their closest game was a 62-45 loss at home against 16th-ranked Vanderbilt.
Hannah Phillips leads the Lady Bisons in all major statistical categories with 15.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. This marks the first season under new head coach Greg Brown, who inherits a team that went 6-23 last season.
Monday's game will not be available on WNBS, but a free live video stream will be available on the OVC Digital Network. Live stats for the Monday night will also be available on GoRacers.com.
