After a sweep of a six-game homestand, the Murray State women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time in over a month on Thursday when they take on SEC opponent Missouri (10-2) at the Mizzou Arena at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the Racers won their seventh consecutive game by taking down Alabama A&M, 69-54. The game started slow for the Racers as they trailed the Lady Bulldogs (1-5) for over the first 15 minutes of the contest.
With 3:27 left in the first half, senior Mariah Robinson hit a three to give MSU (7-3) its first lead of the contest, one they would never relinquish. The Racers led by as many as 17 in the second stanza and outshot the Lady Bulldogs by more the 20 percent in the frame. However, Alabama A&M was able to cut the lead to just three with 5:48 remaining in the game, but MSU pushed through to end the game on an 18-6 run and claim 15-point victory.
Robinson finished the afternoon with a game-high 19 points to lead the Racers offensively for the sixth time this season. Freshman Kelsey Dirks led MSU on the glass for the third-straight game, as she and senior Kyra Watson pulled down six boards each.
This year's meeting with Missouri will mark the fifth all-time with the Tigers, with each of the five taking place in Columbia, The Racers have never beaten Missouri in any of the previous four contests and the closest they ever come to beating the Tigers was on Nov. 9, 2007, whey the lost by just nine points, 73-64. The most lopsided decision in the series came on Dec. 3, 2005 when Mizzou beat the Racers, 100-45, which was also the last time Missouri scored 100 points in a single contest.
The Tigers are currently 10-2 on the year and have won each of their last six contests. While they are 10-2 overall, they are also a perfect 9-0 at home this season. MU is coming off a win over Morgan State on Tuesday, in which they had little trouble with the Bears and won 75-50.
