The Murray State women's basketball team had a two-game winning streak stopped by Austin Peay after dropping an 85-72 decision to the Lady Govs at the CFSB Center.
The Racers (11-15, 7-6 OVC) were led by senior Kayla Lowe, who tallied a season-best 21 points and added four rebounds. Red-shirt sophomore Erica Burgess added 19 points and eight boards. Junior Mariah Robinson had a strong game for MSU as well, with 13 points, a career-best eight assists, seven rebounds and zero turnovers.
The first half was a series of runs by both teams. After the Racers scored the first points of the game, the Lady Govs took control of the scoreboard with a 10-0 run. MSU cut the advantage to as little as one several times during the stanza, but were never able to gain a lead and went to the locker room trailing 42-37.
The teams traded the first few shots of the second half before APSU used an 8-4run to push the lead to nine (50-41). The Racers kept the deficit around nine points for the next two minutes before another Lady Govs run gave them a double-digit lead and control of the momentum. A 13-point deficit was a close as the Racers would get the rest of the game, losing 85-72.
Shooting percentages were the difference in the game, as APSU shot 54 percent from the field and 64 percent from beyond the arc to MSU's 38 percent and 28 percent marks. The Racers did earn a 41-36 rebounding lead, including a 16-6 mark on the offensive glass.
MSU will wrap up the home portion of its season, Thursday, Feb. 16 when UT Martin comes to the CFSB Center for a 7 p.m. tip. The game is the fourth-straight home game for the Racers and will also be the annual Senior Night to honor seniors Kayla Lowe and Mallory Schwab.
