Riley Wallace Award
Murray State's Ivan Aska has been named to the Riley Wallace All-America team by CollegeInsider.com
The Riley Wallace All-America selections are for seniors only, as Aska from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was picked to be on a list of 10 seniors who have been a major part of their team's success by contributing in all phases of the game throughout their careers. Like many of the great players that Riley Wallace coached, during his 20-year career at Hawaii, the Riley Wallace All-America team highlights players that have excelled without a lot of national attention.
Aska was a big part of Murray State's amazing 2011-12 season that included a 31-2 record that tied both the school and Ohio Valley Conference record for single-season wins. MSU was the final undefeated team this season at 23-0 and they were the only team in NCAA Division I that went undefeated (13-0) in road games. Aska helped the Racers win their 23rd OVC regular season championship and 15th OVC Tournament title that led to their 15th trip to the NCAA Tournament. Earning the highest seed in program history, No. 6, the Racers defeated Colorado State in the second round (58-41) before falling short of the Sweet 16 in a loss to Marquette (62-53).
Aska was named to the All-OVC Second Team after scoring 10.6 points per game and grabbing a team-best 6.0 rebounds per game. Even though he missed six games with a broken bone in his hand, Aska had 13 games with double-digit scoring this season including a high of 21 points in MSU's win at Morgan State (Nov. 14).
He became the 37th member of the MSU 1000-Point Club while the Racers were in Anchorage winning the Great Alaska Shootout in November. Aska finished his MSU career with six double-doubles, 1,218 points and 678 rebounds. Along with Jewuan Long and Donte Poole, Aska is part of the winningest class in MSU history with 104 wins. Aska started his career at MSU by winning the OVC Freshman of the Year award for the 2008-09 season and a spot on the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshman All-America Team. As a sophomore in the 2009-10 season, Aska earned All-District 19 honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
