Colonels Take Series With Friday Victory

Eastern Kentucky scored three runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back on their way to a 9-2 victory over Murray State Friday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Colonels (30-21, 18-7 OVC) put together a two-out rally in the first inning as Jacob Daniel doubled off the fence in left field and scored on Bryan Soloman's two-run home run to left field. After an A.J. Jamison double to right center, Michael Garcia delivered an RBI single to center field.
The Breds (23-32, 8-18 OVC) got one run back in the home-half of the inning as Ty Stetson started the inning with a double to right center and scored on a Travis Isaak single up the middle.
EKU added to its lead with three more runs in the second as Austin Grisham drove in a run with a single through the right side, and a fielding error allowed a second run to score on the play. The third run of the inning also scored on a fielding error with two outs.
MSU pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the inning as Paul Ritzheimer singled through the left side. Dylan Wheeler followed by reaching on a throwing error, but the ball bounced off the wall and Wheeler got caught in a run down, allowing Ritzheimer to score on the play.
The Colonels added two more runs in the fourth as a wild pitch and throwing error on a stolen base attempt allowed them to score.
Bryan Babin (5-5) took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits over two innings. Matt Fyffe (9-0) earned the victory after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits over six innings. Greg Terry was credited with his first save of the season after allowing three hits and striking out five over three shutout innings.
The two teams close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1p.m.
