The Murray State Racers hit the road for a Saturday game against rival Austin Peay in a 7:30 p.m. tip in Clarksville, Tenn., at the Dunn Center. The Ohio Valley Conference battle and can be heard over the air on Racer Radio on WFGE 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. The Racer TV Network will air the game on the cable systems of Time Warner, Mediacom, Murray Electric and Comcast. The game will also be seen on the OVC Digital Network and ESPN3 with streaming video.
After taking their first two OVC games on the road over UT Martin (Jan. 3) and Southeast Missouri (Jan. 5), the Racers dropped their league home opener on Wednesday 77-65 at the CFSB Center against Eastern Kentucky. The game snapped a seven-game win streak for MSU against the Colonels. MSU trailed 39-25 at the half and were down by 22 with 7:40 left, but put together a 16-0 run to draw to within 67-62 at the 3:30 mark, but never got any closer. The loss marked just the sixth time in 15 seasons in the CFSB Center that MSU has dropped back-to-back games. MSU has never lost three straight in the arena.
The Racers are looking for continued great play from All-America Isaiah Canaan and All-OVC pick Ed Daniel. Canaan is scoring 23.3 points per game in OVC play and Daniel is pulling down 11.3 rebounds. MSU is beginning to get increased production from their newcomers. Freshman Jeffery Moss and Erik McCree haven't missed from the free throw line yet. Moss played 27 minutes against EKU and was 2-of-3 from three-point range and scored eight points. McCree played nine minutes and hauled in six rebounds.
MSU leads the all-time series with APSU 72-41 and are 25-27 at the Govs home court. However MSU has won the last three at the Dunn Center since the last Govs win there in 2009.
ESPN The Magazine named the MSU-APSU rivalry among the best in college basketball in 2009. The second game this season between the two will happen on the Racers' home court (Feb. 2) in a game that will air on ESPNU.
After the Saturday game at APSU, the Racers return home next week for a pair of OVC games against Eastern Illinois (Jan. 17) and SIUE (Jan. 19).
