The Murray State women's track and field squad was solid in its first meet of 2013 over the weekend at the Southern Illinois Saluki Open in Carbondale, Ill.
The Racers had four top-five finishes and two more sixth-place finishes at the meet. All-American Alexis Love had the highest finish at the meet for MSU. Love placed third and ran a time of 7.61 in the 60-meter dash, her only individual event of the weekend.
LaShea Shaw and Ashley Conway each garnered fourth-place finishes on Saturday. Shaw got hers in the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of 8.96. Conway placed fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5-2.25 feet. Katie Forshey also had a jump of 5-2.25 in the high jump and placed sixth.
Conway also picked up a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17-3.25. Miranda Rorer was ninth in the long jump with a jump of 16-7, while Jill Jacino finished 10th with a mark of 16-4.50.
Tonia Pratt placed sixth in the shot put with a new career-high throw of 43-3.25 for MSU. Pratt also finished eighth in the weight throw for the Racers with a throw of 53-8.5 feet. Brianna McCarthy also had a top-10 finish in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 42-7.25 and placed 10th.
Kiara Austin, Brittany Bohn and Abbie Oliver all earned eighth-place marks for MSU on Saturday. Austin had a triple jump of 36-8.5, while Bohn had a time of 2:29.46 in the 800 meters and Oliver ran a 3K time of 10:57.94. Bohn also had a new career-best in the mile at the meet with a time of 5:29.55 in the event.
Murray State will return to action next weekend as the Racers will head to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Eastern Tennessee State Niswonger Invite.
