Racers Have Strong Meet at Niswonger Invite

The Murray State women's track and field team had a strong showing at the 35th annual Niswonger Invitational over the weekend in Johnson City, Tenn., hosted by Eastern Tennessee State.
All-American Alexis Love had her best meet of the young season at the invite. Love took home the 200 meter dash crown with a time of 24.58, in her first 200 race of the year. Love also placed second in the 60 meters, finishing with a time of 7.61. Love also ran a season-best time of 7.56 during the prelims.
Tonia Pratt took home the Racers' other crown on Saturday. Pratt threw a career-high 59-2.25 feet in the weight throw to win the event. Pratt followed that up with a third-place finish in the shot put. Pratt recorded a throw of 43-6 in the event.
Sharda Bettis also had a strong meet for the Racers, Bettis placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.70. Bettis also took 10th in the long jump with a leap of 17-5.5 feet. Ashley Conway placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5-6, tying a career-high. While LaShea Shaw had MSU's other top-five individual finish, when she finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.79, which is a new career-best for her.
The 4x400 meter team of Jolyta Taylor, Bettis, Shaw and Natalie Pattin ran a season-best time of 3:57.36 and took home second place in the event.
Leah Krause took home eighth-place in the 5K with a time of 19:42.36. Brittany Bohn and Emma Gilmore each had ninth-place finishes for the Racers. Bohn ran a time of 2:25.21 in the 800 meters while Gilmore ran a time of 5:38.07 in the mile.
Murray State will head to Bloomington, Ind., next weekend for the Indiana Relays on Friday and Saturday.
