STORY LINES
The Racers hit the road for the third time in the last four weeks as they travel to face Southeast Missouri. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Â
Special teams was the difference last season as Walter Powell returned a punt 100 yards for a touchdown and Duane Brady returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown in the 42-35 victory.
The Racers are looking for their first 3-0 start in conference play since the 1997. MSU is now 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 1998.
Walter Powell became the Racers all-time leader in receiving touchdowns when he hauled in two touchdowns against Tennessee Tech. He is tied with Terrance Tillman with 26 receiving touchdowns. He also tied Tillman's school record with his ninth 100-yard receiving game.
Powell is also became the modern-day record holder with 30 total touchdowns. Harlan Brodie (1927-30) holds the all-time record with 40.
Three Racers earned OVC weekly honors after the victory over TTU. Powell (Specialist), John Manning (Defensive) and Maikhail Miller (Newcomer).
The Game
The Racers hit the road to face Southeast Missouri on Oct. 12. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and can be seen on the Racer TV Network.
vs. SEMO
The Racers hold a 38-8-1 record in the all-time series with the Redhawks. MSU has won the last two meetings and are 18-5-1 in games played on the road in the series.
Last Year vs. SEMO
Murray State got a 100-yard punt return from Walter Powell, and Duane Brady broke a tie game with an 85-yard kickoff return late in the fourth quarter to give the Racers the 42-35 victory.
Looking For 3-0
The Racers will be looking for their first 3-0 start in conference play since the 1999 season. They went on to finish that season 5-2.
2-0 Start
Murray State is off to its first 2-0 start in conference play since 1998. They went on to finish 5-2 that season.
The Return of Powell
All-American Walter Powell returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter against Tennessee Tech. It was the second-straight year he took a punt back in the first quarter against the Golden Eagles. He is now the only player in the FCS with a punt and kickoff return for a TD this season.
Powell Ties Pair of Receiving Records
Senior Walter Powell tied a pair of MSU career receiving records against TTU. Powell registered his 26th receiving touchdown, tieing Terrance Tillman (1998-2000) for the all-time record. It was also his ninth career 100-yard receiving game, equalling Tillman's mark.
Powell Sets Total TD Record
Walter Powell became the modern-day record holder for total touchdowns at Murray State. He now has 30 total touchdowns, passing the record of 28 previously held by Willie Cannon. Harlan Brodie (1927-30) holds the all-time record with 40 touchdowns.
Manning Fumble Return
Josh Manning found the endzone against Tennessee Tech after he scooped up a fumble and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half. He later added an interception, his second in as many games.
