Murray State volleyball will look to make it three wins in row as Austin Peay comes to Racer Arena. With two wins last weekend, the Racers kept their playoff hopes alive. The currently ninth place Racers are one game behind eighth place Tennessee State with two matches to play.
With 15 wins this season, the Racers have their most regular season wins since they won 16 games in 2008.
The Racers actually trailed twice (1-0, 2-1) in their match against SEMO. After not seeing double-figures in three straight matches, Alyssa Lelm broke through with her third 20-kill performance of the season. The sophomore registered 20 even and a .342 attack percentage. Sophomore setter Sam Bedard fell two kills shy of her second career triple-double. Bedard did however record her second highest assist total with 55. She also dug out 13 attacks and put away eight kills.Â
Taylor Olden and Scottie Ingram both picked up double-doubles in the win at SEMO. Each recorded 14 kills while Ingram had a team-best 19 digs and Olden finished with 12. Ingram recorded her 300th kill this weekend, becoming the first freshman since Logan Su in 2008 to reach 300 their freshman year.
Against UTM, the Racers again found themselves in 2-1 hole, this time after taking the opening set 25-17. As good as Lelm was the night before, she was even better against UTM. Lelm landed a career second-best 22 kills with a .362 attack percentage and totaled a career-high 11 digs for a double-double.
A night after falling two kills shy of a triple-double, Bedard completed the trifecta with 10 kills, 41 assists and 10 digs. It was her second career triple-double, both coming this season.
Their two five-set wins give them six this season and they are 6-2 in five-set matches. Since 2006, that is tied for the most five-set wins in a single season.
With their win six weeks ago the Governors now have an eight-match winning streak over the Racers. MSU was ahead two sets to one before losing in five. Austin Peay holds a 35-31 all time advantage in the series, but the Racers are 17-11 in Murray.
At 8-6 in the OVC, the Governors are tied for fourth place with Eastern Kentucky. Austin Peay did however start the conference season 5-0 and have gone 3-6 since, including having lost three of their past four matches.
Austin Peay has shared their spiking duties. Four student-athletes have landed over 200 kills this season. Jada Stotts leads the way with 262, followed by Lauren Henderson (249), Sammie Ebright (220) and Calyn Hull (218). Liz Landon ranks ninth in the OVC with a .276 attack percentage. She has been even better during the conference season , hitting at a .352 percentage to rank fourth. Henderson joins her on the top-10 list at No. 7 hitting .323 during conference play.
Lauren Henderson also tops the OVC conference-only list for blocks per set with 1.28. She has exactly 100 this season and has knocked back 49 in her last 10 matches.
Jada Stotts is one of only two student-athletes in the OVC to average over four points per set. Stotts (4.02) joins Naomi Wells (4.23) in the exclusive club. After missing 10 matches earlier this season, Stotts has double-digit kills in 10 of her 16 matches.Â
