The Murray State women's basketball team will begin a four-game road trip Saturday when they travel to Alabama A&M.
Â
The Racers breezed by New Orleans, 88-47, Saturday in a game that saw every MSU player that entered the game appear on the score sheet. The Privateers jumped out to an early 8-4 lead, but that would be as close as UNO would get as the Racers rode a 43.4 percent shooting night to the 41-point win.
Â
Keiona Kirby notched the first double-double of her career with a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Jessica Winfrey notched her third double-double of the year at 14 points and 11 rebounds. Nikia Edom rounded out three Murray State players in double-digits with 12 points.
Â
Saturday will be the seventh meeting in the past eight seasons between Murray State and Alabama A&M, with the Racers holding a 5-1 advantage. This will be MSU's fourth visit to T.M. Elmore Gymnasium and first since suffering their only loss of the series, a 76-71 misstep during the 2011-12 season. Last season, the Racers got back on the winning track in the series when they topped the Bulldogs 69-54 at the CFSB Center in Murray.
Â
Alabama A&M is currently 0-6 on the season and have now lost 11 in a row, dating back to last season. While the Bulldogs are winless on the season, they have faced stiff competition in three power conference teams, as well as OVC opponents Southeast Missouri and Eastern Kentucky.
In its last game, AAMU just could not get it going and suffered its worst loss of the season, a 93-56 defeat at the hands of Georgia Tech. Brittney Strickland led the Bulldogs in the game with 18 points, while sister Alyssa followed with 12.
Brittney Strickland currently leads AAMU on the year with 13.0 points per game, while Alyssa follows with 10.0. The Bulldogs are led on the boards by Jasmine Davis who has pulled down 22 rebounds in four games, for an average of 5.5. Alabama A&M is currently allowing 79.5 points per game, while only scoring 55.8. The Bulldogs are also being outrebounded at a significant rate, 44.7 to 22.8.
