Murray State (3-5) is playing the second game of a three-game home stand after getting it started Wednesday night with a 65-63 win over Evansville. Jeffery Moss had a career-high five 3-point baskets and scored 20 points, while Jarvis Williams hauled in 16 rebounds as the Racers recorded their first win of the season against an NCAA D-I team.
Cameron Payne is the Racers' scoring leader at 13.5 points per game, but the Racers are balanced in having four players scoring in double-figures through eight games. Jarvis Williams is scoring at a 13.1 clip and was 16th in the nation at the start of the week in rebounding. He is getting 11.1 boards per game.
The Bisons (4-4) are coming off an 87-79 win at home Thursday over Ohio Valley Conference squad Tennessee Tech. LU held a 35-29 lead at halftime and pushed to a 15-point lead with 10:27 remaining. Martin Smith and Josh Williams led the way for Lipscomb with 24 and 20 points repsectively, while J.C. Hampton added 19.
The Racers lead the all-time series with the Bisons 2-0 with a win at home in 2011 and last season in Nashville at Allen Arena.
This week, the Racers started at No. 236 in the Sagarin Ratings but moved up to 219 after the win over UE. MSU has played the 63rd-toughest schedule in the nation. The combined record of the teams the Racers have lost to — Valparaiso, Old Dominion, Auburn, Middle Tennessee State and Saint Mary's is 26-11.
Murray State looks to continue making their home court at the CFSB Center a tough place to win for opponents. Entering the UE game, the Racers are 76-11 (.873) in 16 seasons in the building against non-OVC teams and are 185-33 (.848) overall.
The Racers are glad to stay at home for a while as they host the Bisons Saturday  as part of an afternoon women's/men's doubleheader. The Racer women host New Orleans at 1 p.m.
After next week off to take final semester exams, MSU hosts Missouri Valley squad Southern Illinois (Dec. 17).
