Racers Ready For OVC Indoor Championships

The Murray State Track and Field squad travels to Charleston, Ill., this weekend for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois at Lantz Fieldhouse.
The two-day event kicks off on Friday afternoon at 1:30 with both the long jump and high jump. Things pick up again on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with the pole vault, shot put and triple jump. The meet is expected to finish at approximately 2:30 with the 4x400 meter relay.
All-American Alexis Love comes into the weekend ranked first in the 200 meters and second in the 60 dash in the conference. Tonia Pratt is the top-rated thrower in the weight throw in the league.
Love and Pratt are coming off of solid performances two weeks ago at the Grand Valley State meet. Love set a new career-best in the 400, running a time of 56.27 to win the meet. Love also ran a season-best and placed second in the 200 with a time of 24.06 and placed third in the 60 meters with a time of 7.56.
Pratt had a pair of sixth-place finishes at GVSU in the shot put and weight throw. Pratt set new PRs in both events, throwing 45'-6.5” in the shot and 60'-5.25” in the weight.
Eastern Illinois comes into the weekend as the four-time defending indoor champions in the OVC. Murray State is looking for its first indoor title since 1992.
