Pratt Wins Weight Throw, Racers Fourth After Day One at OVC's

After day one of competition at the OVC Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Racers sit in fourth place with a total of 28 team points.
Tonia Pratt was crowned the champion in the weight throw at the championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois. Pratt had a career-high throw of 60'-10.75” in the event to take home the title. This is Pratt's second OVC title in as many years in the weight throw.
All-American Alexis Love qualified for Saturday's finals in her two events with her performance in the prelims. Love recorded the second-best qualifying time in the 60 meter dash with a season-best time of 7.54. Love also qualified with the third-fastest time in the prelims of the 200 dash with a time of 24.91.
The Racers also had a strong showing in the high jump on Friday as Katie Forshey and Ashley Conway took third and fourth, respectively in the event with leaps of 5'-5.25”. Forshey took third over Conway since Conway missed on her first attempt at that height. The mark was a new career-best for Forshey in the high jump.
The distance medley relay team of Abbie Oliver, Natalie Pattin, Emma Gilmore and Brittany Bohn took fourth-place at the meet with a time of 12:24.18. Carolyne Tanui took seventh in the 5,000 for MSU, running a new career-best time of 18:11.51.
Other Racers to qualify for Saturday's finals were, Sharda Bettis, who recorded the second-fastest prelim time in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.65. Bettis also had the seventh-best prelim time in the 60 dash when she recorded a career-best time of 7.76.
LaShea Shaw posted the fourth-best qualifying time in the 60 hurdles with a career-best time of 8.66 in the race. Emma Gilmore will run in Saturday's final of the 800, Gilmore ran a career-best time of 2:18.13 in the prelims and posted the eighth-best time.
Saturday's action will begin at 9:30 in the morning with the shot put, triple jump and pole vault. The championships' final event will take place at around 2:15 p.m. with the 4x400 meter relay.
