The Murray State Racers (20-8, 10-5) host the Southeast Missouri Redhawks (15-15, 7-8) in the season finale for both teams Saturday at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
The Racers are coming off a 69-68 loss at home to UT Martin Thursday night in what marked the Skyhawks first win on the Racers' home court in 23 tries dating back to 1979. The Racers lost the lead early and could never regain it as they tied it one time with 14:43 remaining when it was 40-40. Even so, the Racers had the ball at the buzzer with a chance to win, but Isaiah Canaan's long three-point attempt was no good. Canaan led MSU with 31 points, his fourth 30-point game this season and the eighth of his MSU Career. Ed Daniel added 19 points and 12 rebounds for his 14th double-double of the season.
MSU gets a hot SEMO team that won Thursday at Austin Peay 108-81 with a 65 point first half and a school & Ohio Valley Conference record 20 three-point baskets. SEMO had six players in double-figure scoring including 26 from Corey Wilford.
The Racers won the first meeting in Cape Girardeau, Mo., by a 74-66 score on Jan. 5.
MSU's All-America Canaan is 23 points from becoming the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th in the OVC. Canaan starts the night with 1,977 points and is first in the league and eighth nationally with 21.5 points per game. Canaan also owns the school-record for consecutive games with at least one made three-point basket at 38 straight games.
Ed Daniel, named to the All-OVC Preseason Team, has 288 rebounds and currently has one of the top-30 rebound totals for a season in MSU history. Daniel is 14th this week nationally with 10.3 rebounds a game. He ranks 12th all-time at MSU with 696 and is looking to become the 12th Racer to reach 700 rebounds.
The game marks the end of the regular season for the Racers as they honor their six seniors and manager Tim MacCallister. Four-year seniors Canaan, Daniel and Jordan Burge already own the MSU record for total wins at 105. Brandon Garrett, Latrez Mushatt and Stacy Wilson round out the senior class that will be honored before the game.
