Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Shamrock Invite

The Murray State track and field team will open its 2013 outdoor season during the weekend as they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina.
In all, the Racers will send 39 athletes to compete in 22 different events to Doug Shaw Stadium. All-American Alexis Love will compete in two individual events this weekend with the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Love will also compete in the 4x100 relay.
OVC indoor champion in the weight throw, Tonia Pratt will throw in the discus, the shot put and the hammer throw at CCU. Sharda Bettis will also look to build off a fabulous end to her indoor season. Bettis took home the 60-meter hurdle title at the OVC Indoor Championships and set a new school record in the event with a time of 8.44. Bettis will participate in the 100 and 200, as well as the 100-meter hurdles, 400 hurdles and the 4x100 relay.
The meet begins Thursday with the decathlon, heptathlon and 10,000 meters. Friday afternoon will kick off the meet for the Racers with the hammer throw at 1. Saturday's events begin at 9 a.m. with the men's discus and the women's long jump.
