Tennis Opens OVC Play With a Pair of Home Matches This Weekend

The Murray State men's and women's tennis teams open up OVC play this weekend as they each will host a pair of matches at Bennie Purcell Courts.

First up, the Racers will host Morehead State on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. On Sunday, Eastern Kentucky will come to town for a 10 a.m. matchup.

The Morehead men come into Saturday's match with a 3-5 record. The Morehead women are 1-9 in 2013. The EKU men are 5-10 and will enter Sunday on a four-game losing streak. The Lady Govs are 7-5 this season.

Head men's coach Mel Purcell has compiled a 54-64 record in the OVC during his 15 previous seasons with the Racers. Head women's coach Olga Elkin will look to continue the Racers' strong tradition of winning OVC openers, and giving first-year head coaches an opening day victory. Murray State is 26-10 all-time in OVC openers and is 6-1 in a coaches' conference debut.
