Women's Tennis' Streak Reaches Seven Straight With 7-0 Win

The Murray State women's tennis team made it seven wins in a row Friday afternoon with a commanding 7-0 victory over UT Martin at Bennie Purcell Courts.

It wasn't an easy point in the match, but the Racers (11-7, 8-1 OVC) won the doubles point winning two of the three matches.

The duo of Megan Blue and Carla Suga won 8-5 at number two, while at three, the team of Erin Patton and Suzaan Stoltz won a hard-fought match 9-8 to win the point. Patton also clinched the match victory with her win at number four singles.

MSU swept all six singles matches. Including winning two by way of a third set tie-break. Ashley Canty won at number one singles over UTM's Ivon Simic 6-7, 7-5 and 10-8. Suga was victorious at two, winning 6-2 and 6-1. Blue won at three 4-6, 6-2 and 10-7. Patton took the win at number four 6-0 and 6-3. Carolyn Huerth won at five 6-3 and 6-1 and Stoltz won at six 6-2 and 7-5.

Blue's victory gives her five in a row and makes her a perfect 7-0 in OVC play this season. Canty and Patton are also riding five-match winning-streaks. Carla Suga has won seven consecutive matches and Stoltz is currently on a four-match streak.

Murray State will go for number eight in a row tomorrow against Jacksonville State. More importantly, a win would secure the second seed and a first round bye in next weekend's OVC Tournament for the Racers.

The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. in a doubleheader with the men's team. The match will be the Racers' regular season finale and senior Ashley Canty's final home match for Murray State.
