The Murray State track and field squad will travel to Bowling Green, Ky., this weekend for the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays.
The relays begin Friday afternoon with just one event, the hammer throw, beginning at four. Five Racers will be competing in that event to kick things off for Murray State. The majority of the meet will be held Saturday, with the discus opening things up at 9 a.m. Running events begin at 11 with the 5,000.
Tonia Pratt, coming fresh off her three victories at last weekend's Margaret Simmons Invite, was named the ADIDAS OVC Track & Field Female Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office. Pratt will be competing in the discus, hammer throw and shot put this weekend.
All-American Alexis Love will be running the anchor leg of the 4x100 meter relay on Saturday along with teammates LaShea Shaw, Hannah McAllister and Sharda Bettis. Bettis will also be competing in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles at the meet.
The Racers will be sending 31 athletes total to Western Kentucky and will be competing in 15 different events. Clayton Hall will also be running in the men's 800 and 1,500 for MSU on Saturday. The Racers will also get a good dose of competition against fellow OVC opponents as Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville and Tennessee Tech are all sending athletes to the meet.
