Racers Top Lindsey Wilson in Spring Opener

Murray State's women's tennis team kicked off their spring season with a win over Lindsey Wilson. In their first dual match of the 2014 season, the Racers topped the Blue Raiders, 6-1 at Kenlake State Park.
All six Racers picked up a victory either in singles or doubles competition. The doubles teams of Andrea Eskauriatza/Erin Patton and Megan Blue/Carla Suga each won 6-1 to capture the doubles point.
All three freshmen, competing in their first collegiate dual meet, earned wins in their singles matches. Playing at first singles, Eskauriatza came from behind to pick up the win over Alejandra Galvis in a thrilling match. Eskauriatza dropped her first set, 7-5, before winning the next two, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7) to win the match.
Eleonore Tchakarova, ranked No. 117 in singles by the ITA, defeated Sarah Bernos 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Twin sister, Verginie Tchakarova, also won her match over Anna Helena-Pinto 6-4, 6-1 playing at fifth singles.
Sophomores Blue and Patton rounded out the match for the Racers. Blue defeated Jessica King 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and Patton was victorious at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4, over Anna Gaprindashvili. Â
MSU will be back at Kenlake State Park Saturday, Feb. 1 to take on Arkansas State. The evening match gets underway at 6 p.m. Â
