The Murray State Racers meet the UT Martin Skyhawks in their second game of the Ohio Valley Conference season. The game tips at 2 p.m. at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky., and will be aired on Racer Radio on WGFE 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. The CBS Sports Network will air the game on television.
The Racers (6-7) are coming off an 82-75 win at home Thursday against Southeast Missouri in their OVC opener. MSU and SEMO were co-favorites in the OVC West Division in the preseason. The Racers used a late 7-0 run keyed by 3-pointers from Cameron Payne and T.J. Sapp to get the push needed to beat SEMO. Payne had his first 20-point game as the OVC Freshman of the Year frontrunner scored 23. Jarvis Williams tied the CFSB Center record with 18 as he recorded his sixth double-double this season.
The Skyhawks (5-12) are 0-2 in the OVC after an 81-68 loss at Austin Peay. All-OVC pick Myles Taylor leads UTM with 15.5 points per game in conference play and 10 rebounds.
The Racers will be looking to bounce back from UTM's first win at MSU's home court which occurred late last season 69-68. The Racers have won four straight at home since their last loss to Middle Tennessee (Nov. 26). MSU is 28-6 in Coach Steve Prohm's third season at home and are 78-11 all-time in OVC games. MSU is playing its 16th season in the CFSB Center.
Payne is having an outstanding rookie season for the Racers. Â He's scoring 13.8 points per game and is 12th in the OVC, while he's fourth in the league with 5.5 assists per game. He ranks among the best freshman in the nation this season in assists. Williams second in the OVC with 10.5 rebounds per game.
The Racers will continue to keep an emphasis on winning the rebounding stat. When the Racers win the stat, they're 5-0 this season and 36-5 in the Prohm era.
The Racers hit the road for a Wednesday game at Eastern Kentucky. Tip time is set for 6 p.m. at McBrayer Arena in Richmond, Ky. The Racer TV Network will carry the game locally on the cable systems of Time Warner, Murray Electric and Mediacom. The game will also be carried online on espn3.com.
