Racers Beat APSU - Receive OVC Trophy

The Murray State volleyball team swept Austin Peay 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) Tuesday night at Racer Arena. MSU received their regular season conference award from Athletic Director Allen Ward after the conclusion of the match. The Racers will host the OVC Tournament November 20-22 at Racer Arena.
The Racers (23-4, 14-1 OVC) started off the first set with a 7-0 run that came off of five kills, a service ace and an attack error by the Lady Govs (14-17, 8-7 OVC). Murray State would never trail, and quickly took the first set 25-18.
The second set looked like the first set with MSU taking a 3-0 run. Austin Peay was able to gain momentum, but could never quite catch up with the dominate Racers. Â Murray State went on a 5-0 run to take the second set 25-15. Murray State held the Lady Govs to a .000 attack percentage in the second set, while the Racers hit at a .440 clip.
During the third set, Austin Peay came out strong and took a 6-3 advantage. Murray State tried to catch up, but had trouble keeping the score close until two kills from Scottie Ingram tied the match 20-20. MSU then took the lead and with a cheering crowd, Taylor Olden got a kill that gave Murray State the outright Ohio Valley Conference regular season title, the first in program history.
Sam Bedard picked up a double-double after dishing out 30 assists along with 11 digs. Scottie Ingram had a match-high 12 kills, followed by Taylor Olden and Kristen Besselsen contributing nine each. Ellie Lorenz recorded a match-high 15 digs for the Racers.
Murray State will play their last regular season match at Morehead State on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Ohio Valley Conference Tournament will be held in Racer Arena beginning at 10 a.m. on November 20.Â
