The Racers (9-4) last played eight days ago (Dec. 22) when they won on the road at Southern Illinois 83-71. The game marked the Racers' seventh straight win and their third road win of the season. MSU also has wins this season at Middle Tennessee and Evansville. MSU started the season with some challenges against a tough schedule. MSU lost three straight games: at Xavier and their first two games at the Challenge In Music City Thanksgiving weekend to Portland and Valparaiso. The Racers circled the wagons and salvaged their third game in Nashville and have been improving ever since. In the seven-game win streak, the Racers are excelling in many areas including scoring at an 87.1 points per game clip. MSU is holding opponents to 69.9. MSU also has a rebound margin of +6.4.
The Racers (9-4) are facing an Alabama A&M squad that has played a rigorous schedule that includes road games Dayton, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Marquette. Ladarious Tabb leads the Bulldogs (1-8) in scoring at 12.6 points per game and in rebounding at 6.9. The Racers are 17-0 all-time against teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference including a home win over Alcorn State (Dec. 17) 94-56.
MSU Head Coach Steve Prohm is 45-7 at home in his fourth season as the Racer leader and he's 84-27 overall. The Racers have won five straight at home since dropping the season opener to Houston.Â
The Racers have made 80 points a magic mark in the Prohm era. They're 34-3 when scoring 80 or more points and 7-0 this season.
MSU has three making a run at joining the MSU 1000-Point Club in the same season: Cameron Payne (820pts), Jarvis Williams (707) and Jeffery Moss (707).
The Racers start Ohio Valley Conference play with three road games at Morehead State (Jan. 3), Tennessee Tech (Jan. 8) and Jacksonville State (Jan. 11). The JSU game is a rare Sunday game that will be carried by the CBS Sports Network. MSU's OVC home opener is against Belmont (Jan. 15) airing on ESPNU.
