After narrowly missing setting a school record a week ago, Tonia Pratt bettered her own school record set last year in the shot put. Pratt's throw of 14.96m (49'1") improves upon her record by 20.75 inches and places her second in the OVC. Pratt finished fourth in the event and third in the weight throw with a toss of 18.43m (60'5.75") at the Indiana Relays.
The Racers split up this weekend, sending a group to the Indiana Relays and another to the Tennessee State Invitational.
In addition to Pratt's record breaking performance, the distance medley team of Abbie Oliver, Taylor Adcock, Emma Gilmore and Brittany Bohn tied the school record down to the 100th of a second. The team finished fifth with a record tying time of 12:08.11, the fastest in the OVC this year.
Oliver, Gilmore, Bohn and Tia Weston formed a 4x800m team which finished less than four seconds off the school record. Their time of 9:31.21 placed them ninth in the event.
Oliver and Gilmore also had a strong days performing as individuals. Oliver ran the sixth fastest time in school history in the 5,000m, 18:11.41, an indoor personal best, and the third fastest time in the conference this season. And Gilmore set a season-best in the 800m in 2:18.40, the sixth fastest time in the OVC.
Alicyn Hester improved upon her personal-best time in the 3,000m with a time of 10:25.19, moving her up to No. 12 in the conference.
In the jumps, Ashley Conway set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 5.35m (17'6.75"). She also had a season-best high jump of 1.60m (5'3").
Over at Tennessee State, a number of Racers also found success. Kiara Austin's jump of 5.18m (17') in the long jump is a personal best and her leap of 11.43m (37'6") in the triple jump is her best in 2014. Jill Jachino also PR'd in the long jump, eclipsing 5.00m for the first time at Murray State. She traveled 5.11m (16'9.25") and finished 16th in the event.
Chleo LeGrand took second in the pole vault with a distance of 3.26m (10'8.5") and Mariah Hoke finished 14th in the weight throw with a toss of 12.48m (40'11.5").
Murray State continues their indoor schedule next weekend, Feb. 7-8, at the SIU Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.
