Murray State women's tennis team is back on the road this weekend, this time travelling to Indiana to square off against Evansville. The Racers snapped a two-game losing streak last weekend at Central Arkansas, but have gone 1-3 since a 2-0 start.
The Racers are a lifetime 33-7 against the Purple Aces, but have lost each of the last four years. All four of those losses have come in Murray. The Racers are 21-1 all time in Evansville.
As the team went 1-1 last weekend, sophomore Erin Patton enjoyed a perfect record. Patton was 4-0, the only Racer to win both her singles and doubles matches on the weekend. Patton has gone 4-1 in singles matches this spring and 5-1 in spring doubles matches.
In addition to Patton, two other Racers have four singles wins in dual matches. Andrea Eskauriatza (4-2), Verginie Tchakarova (4-1) and Patton all share the team lead.
Megan Blue fought her way back into the win column. Blue had not won a singles match since Jan. 26, but was victorious at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 7-5, against Southern Illinois.
Evansville has gotten off to a slow start this season. The Purple Aces are 0-5 for the first time since 2004-05 heading into their match against UT Martin Friday, Feb. 21. However EU could easily have a winning record as they dropped three of their five matches by a 4-3 score.
Juniors Natasha James and Marketa Trousilova were named to the MVC All-Conference team for doubles in 2012-13. The duo combined to go 16-3 for the year and 6-1 in conference. Trousilova also enjoyed a successful singles season, finishing the year 15-3. She has started the year 2-3 in singles competition this spring and 1-2 in dual doubles with James.
The Purple Aces are in the middle of a four game stretch against OVC opponents. EU dropped the first match 4-3 against SIUE and will host UTM and MSU this weekend before travelling to Austin Peay next Saturday.
