Payne, out of Bartlett, Tenn., eclipsed the MSU mark of four by Lamont Sleets in the 1979-80 season and is only two off the OVC record of 11. Eastern Kentucky's Matt Witt set the mark in 2002-03.
The Racers have started the same five (Cameron Payne, Dexter Fields, Jeffery Moss, Jarvis Williams and Jonathan Fairell) in every game this season except for one. At EIU (Jan. 16) Fields was a scratch moments before tip when he slipped on a wet rug. T.J. Sapp was the emergency starter. Fields ended up playing 27 minutes in the game was wasn't injured in a major way.Â

The Murray State Racers hit the road for the final week of the regular season and with their 24th Ohio Valley Conference championship in sight. The Racers (17-9) are tied with the Belmont Bruins each sporting a 12-2 conference mark. If the Racers can win at UT Martin  and Southeast Missouri this week, they'll secure at least a share of the OVC title. The Racers will certainly be watching the scoreboard this week as Belmont also finishes on the road, at SIUE Wednesday and at Jacksonville State Saturday.
MSU's 7 p.m. Thursday at the Elam Center in Martin, Tenn., gives MSU a chance to take the season series over the Skyhawks after winning the first meeting (Jan. 5) at home 91-77. The Racers' Saturday game in Cape Girardeau, Mo., against Southeast Missouri tips at 5:30 p.m. The Racers began the OVC season with an 82-75 home win over the Redhawks (Jan. 2).
Both games will be carried by the Racer TV Network locally on the cable systems of Time Warner, Murray Electric and Mediacom. ESPN3.com will also carry the game. All MSU games are on Racer Radio over the air on Froggy 103.7 FM. Online audio is available on Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. The OVC Digital Network has free streaming video online.
In their first meeting of the season (Jan. 5) the Racers beat the Skyhawks at home 91-77. Cameron Payne set his career-high for the second time in a week with 27 points on 6-of-10 shooting from 3-point range, while Jarvis Williams had his 20 points and 15 rebounds. Jeffery Moss added 20 points to the Racer attack and T.J. Sapp tossed in 14. Moss tied the MSU single game free throw record by going 14-of-14.
The Racers are on a streak of nine straight games in which they haven't trailed at halftime. The last time MSU didn't have the lead at half was on the road (Jan. 16) against Eastern Illinois. Even though MSU trailed 36-28, they came back to win 70-66. The Racers are 16-3 this season when leading at half. Those three losses all came away from home starting with Old Dominion (Nov. 15) after MSU led 36-29. MSU had a 33-28 lead at Western Kentucky (Dec. 21) but couldn't win and they were ahead of SIUE 37-32 (Jan. 18) but also lost. In the Steve Prohm era, MSU is 52-7 when leading at the half.
