Breds Erase Nine-Run Deficit; Fall in Extras

Murray State erased a nine-run deficit early in the game to force extra innings, but never could take the lead in falling 11-10 in 12 innings to Morehead State in the series finale Monday afternoon at Reagan Field.
After neither team scored for three innings, MOR scored the game-winning run in the 12th as a throwing error on an attempted double play put a runner at second with two outs. Robby Spencer took advantage by delivering the RBI single to left center for the game winner.
The Eagles (6-8, 1-2 OVC) got on the board quickly as Chris Robinson delivered a two-run triple in the first inning. The third inning was the costly one for the Breds as two throwing errors helped push across seven runs, five of them unearned.
The Breds (7-6, 2-1 OVC) began their comeback in the fourth inning as Tyler Lawrence drew a one-out walk and went to third on Michael Hargrove's single to left center. Luke Daugherty got MSU on the board with a sacrifice fly to right, and Dalton West doubled to right center to score Hargrove.
The comeback continued in the fifth with Taylor Mathews reaching a two-base throwing error, then scoring from second on a wild pitch. Lawrence later delivered an RBI single through the left side and Daugherty plated two runs with a double deep to left field.
A two-out rally in the sixth pulled the Breds within one in the sixth. Matt McGowan started the rally with an RBI double to left center. Anthony Bayus plated McGowan with a double of his own, then scored on Lawrence's single up the middle.
The Breds finally tied the game in the eighth inning as a popup behind the bag at third was dropped with two outs, allowing McGowan to score from second.
The bullpen kept the Breds in the game as they allowed two runs, one earned, over 9.1 innings. Andrew Bramley entered the game in third and allowed just one run on two hits and seven strikeouts over 6.1 innings. BT Wichman did not allow a run over 1.1 innings. Cody Maerz (1-2) was the tough-luck loser, allowing an unearned run on two hits and two strikeouts over 1.2 innings.
Craig Pearcy (1-1) picked up the victory for MOR as he allowing one unearned run on one hit and seven strikeouts over five innings.
West paced the offense with three hits. Ty Stetson, Bayus and Lawrence each added two hits. Daugherty finished the day 1-for-2 with three RBIs.
The Breds return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon as they play host to Arkansas State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Reagan Field.
