Racers Shutout Morehead For 6-0 OVC Start

The Murray State women's soccer team moved to 6-0 in OVC play Thursday by defeating Morehead State, 2-0, at Jayne Stadium in Morehead, Ky. Harriet Withers and Taylor Stevens each had goals to carry the Racers to their 10th win of the season.
Murray State came out aggressive early. In the 9th minute Stevens found Withers on ahead of the pack. Withers drove to the goal, drawing the goalkeeper out. With a swift move, she got past the keeper and scored the first goal of the game.
The Racers would battle the Eagles, but kept the lead going into halftime 1-0.
Murray State kept the pressure on Morehead State coming out of the half. Each team would be aggressive, As the Racers took five shots to the Eagles' six.The Racers finally pulled away in the 88th minute. Aaron Lankster found a gap on a pass to Marissa Burroughs. Burroughs found Stevens by the 18 yard line and she took a low shot to the corner, sealing the win for the Racers.
With the win, Murray State improves to 6-0 in OVC play and 10-4 overall. Morehead State falls to 4-2-0 in OVC play and 7-8-1 overall.
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald had another amazing performance, shutting out Morehead State and racking up five saves in the contest. It was her third straight shutout.
The Racers are back in action Sunday as they take on Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. First kick is set for 1 p.m.
Murray State returns home to take on SIU Edwardsville on October 23 at 3 p.m. Live Streaming of both matches will be available courtesy of the OVC Digital Network.
