Racers Look to Keep OVC Streak Alive on the Road

The Murray State women's soccer team hits the road to take on Morehead State Thursday at 6 p.m. and Tennessee Tech Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Racers are 9-4 overall this season and are off to their best start in Ohio Valley Conference play in program history with a 5-0 record.
The Racers recorded a pair of 1-0 victories in last week's matches, defeating Belmont and Jacksonville State. Taylor Stevens had the game-winning goal against Belmont and the game-winning assist against Jacksonville State. Marissa Burroughs scored the game-winning goal in the match against JSU. Alex Steigerwald had a combined nine saves in the two shutouts.
Stevens and Steigerwald won OVC weekly honors for their efforts. Stevens took home Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row, and fourth in her career. This was Steigerwald's first time winning Goalkeeper of the week.
Thursday will be the 19th matchup between Murray State and Morehead State. Last season, the Racers faced the Eagles twice, once in the regular season and the other in the OVC tournament. In the regular season match, Harriet Withers scored in the 5-0 victory for the Racers. In the OVC tournament, the Eagles defeated the Racers 5-1. Withers also had a goal in that match.
Morehead State comes into the match 7-7-1 overall and 4-1-0 in OVC play. In their last match against Eastern Illinois, Dani Wilson scored the lone goal for the Eagles. In the 102nd minute Wilson made a penalty kick that ended the match. Wilson earned OVC Weekly honors for her heroics.
The Racers are 9-7-1 all-time against the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech. In the last match between the two teams, Murray State came out on top, 3-0. Lyssie Wright and Withers both had goals in the match. Rebecca Bjorkvall had two assists.
Tennessee Tech is 6-5-3 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play this season. In their last match, the Golden Eagles shutout SIU Edwardsville. Kalyn Pruitt had the lone goal in the match. Kari Naerdemann had eight saves in the match.
