Racers Open OVC Tournament With Sweep

The top-seeded Murray State volleyball team opened the 2015 OVC Tournament with a clean sweep over Southeast Missouri Thursday night inside of Racer Arena. It is the Racers' third sweep this season over SEMO. Set scores went 25-16, 25-19 and 25-17. The win pushed MSU's win streak at home to 20 matches now.
The Racers (26-2) used a balanced attack in the win, hitting .275 as a team while holding the Redhawks (10-20) to just a .058 clip overall. MSU also held an 11-8 edge in total blocks on the night and had seven service aces to SEMO's one.
Two-time defending OVC Player of the Year Scottie Ingram led the Racers offense with 12 kills while also hitting .333. Olivia Chatman and Taylor Olden added eight kills each, while Chatman hit a blistering .727 in the sweep. Alyssa Lelm and Kristen Besselsen added six and five kills, respectively.
Besselsen and Lelm both had all-around solid evenings as Besselsen tallied a team-best five total blocks and had seven digs while Lelm added four total blocks and a team-high three aces. 2015 Setter of the Year Sam Bedard registered 29 assists in the win while Ellie Lorenz had a team-high 12 digs.
MSU returns to action Friday night at 7 p.m. from Racer Arena as it hosts fourth-seeded Tennessee State in the semifinals.
