The game finds the Racers (5-5) looking to bust out of a three-game losing skid and the Salukis having a hot start to their season at 9-2.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. The Racers are coming off a 63-61 road loss Sunday at Illinois State. MSU had the ball with a chance to win on the game's final play. MSU has played two tight games in an 85-81 overtime loss to Evansville (Dec. 5) and Sunday's loss at ISU. The game with SIU marks a third straight game against a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. MSU played four MVC opponents last season and won all of them.Â
The Racers are looking to decrease their opponents trend in field goal percentage. In the last three games, Houston, Evansville and Illinois State have hit 53 percent from the field (89-of-166) and 46 percent from 3-point range (22-of-47).Â
Bryce Jones is first in the OVC and seventh in NCAA D-1 in free throw shooting. With only two misses in the first 10 games, Jones is 29-of-31.
Murray State has won the last two against SIU including a home win two years ago 73-65 and then last season in Carbondale 83-71, which was MSU's first win at SIU since 1991. The Racers lead the all-time series with the Salukis 17-15 and are 9-6 in Murray. SIU's last win at MSU was in 2005.
The Racers are facing a tough non-conference schedule that was ranked 55th by the NCAA as of Monday. The Racers have faced four teams that were in the top-100 RPI according to the NCAA including: Middle Tennessee (No. 74), Georgia (86), Evansville (88) and Milwaukee (89). On Monday, the Racers were 100 in the NCAA RPI.
The Racers play their final game before Christmas (Dec. 22) at Wright State Tuesday. Â MSU comes back from the break to host Brescia (Dec. 30) before hosting Morehead State to open OVC play Jan. 2.
