Racers Fall at Jacksonville

Jacksonville scored 48 second half points and held Murray State to just 23 points on 26 percent shooting from the floor in the final two quarters as the Racers fell to the Dolphins 79-54 Thursday at Swisher Gymnasium in Jacksonville, Fla.
MSU (4-6) found itself down by double digits in the first half as well, but closed on a 12-2 run over the final 3:15 of the second quarter and went into the locker room all square with the Dolphins (6-5) at 31-31.
Jacksonville came out on fire in the third quarter, outscoring the Racers 24-8 in the period going 7-of-15 and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. The Racers shot just 3-of-14 and committed five turnovers in the quarter.
JU was able to control the boards in the contest, out-rebounding the Racers 63-21 and grabbing 26 offensive rebounds. The Dolphins outscored MSU in second-chance points 27-7 in the game and also had a 42-22 advantage in points in the paint. The Racers were able to force the Dolphins into 19 turnovers and scored 15 points off of those miscues.
For the game, the Racers shot 19-fo-59 (32.2 percent) from the floor and went just 5-of-23 (21.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Jacksonville shot 44 percent (30-of-68) from the field and made 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) from 3-point range. The Racers shot 73.3 percent from the line, making 11 free throws while JU went 15-for-24 (62.5 percent) at the stripe.
Ke'Shunan James scored a game-high 24 points in the loss while Kyra Gulledge added 14 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals on the day. Sherranda Reddick led the Dolphins with 19 points while Kayla Gordon had 12 points and 19 rebounds.
MSU closes its two-game swing in the state of Florida Saturday when the Racers travel to Tallahassee to face 10th-ranked Florida State in a 1 p.m. central time tip.
