As a founding member of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Murray State Racers begin their 68th season of OVC play Saturday when they open league play at the CFSB Center against the Morehead State Eagles. The 2 p.m. tip in Murray, Kentucky, is the 16th time the Racers and Eagles meet in their OVC opener.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis and commentary. CBS Sports Network will televise the game nationally with  Brian Custer calling the action and Marc Jackson providing analysis. There will be no online streaming video.
The  Racers have met Morehead State more than any other team in OVC openers and carry a 9-6 mark as the two also opened in 2014. The Racers are 49-18 (.731) all-time in OVC openers and have won seven-straight since their last loss at home to Eastern Kentucky in 2008. MSU has won the last eight openers against the Eagles since the last loss at Morehead in 1979.
The Racers are starting the OVC campaign with three straight home games for the first time since  2013 when they started with four in a row at The Bank. Last season was a flip of this season as the Racers started with three on the road against the same teams. Murray State hosts Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State next week on Thursday (Jan. 7)and Saturday (Jan. 9).
Dating back to last season's 16-0 run in OVC play, the Racers enter the Morehead State game having won 16-straight OVC games and a matching 16-straight at home.
Much has changed since these two met in the OVC Tournament semifinals last March - a game the Racers won with late-game big shots 80-77. Seven players from the Murray State are gone and Morehead State lost six. Through 13 games of non-conference play, the Racers have searched for the right formula that breeds consistency. The Racers start OVC competition looking for their 25th regular season title (MSU has won four of the last six) and along the way earning the program's 29th consecutive winning season.
Wayne Langston has been MSU's most consistent performer to date. He leads the team in scoring (14.2ppg) and rebounding (6.2rpg) and his field goal success rate of 68 percent ranks him in the top-10 in NCAA D-I.
The Racers busted out of a recent skid in fine fashion Wednesday with a tune-up win over Brescia 101-75 to give them their second  game this season of 100 points. Bryce Jones led five Racers in double-figure scoring with 20 points, while Gee McGhee added his first MSU double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.Â
