After a week off for semester final exams, the Murray State Racers (5-4) are off to Normal, Ill., for the 10th game of the season against the Illinois State Redbirds. Tip time is Sunday at 3 p.m. on Doug Collins Court in Redbird Arena.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Streaming video of the game is offered online at ESPN3.com
The series history between the two is short. There have been only two meetings with the Racers taking the game last season in 2014 at home. The first meeting was at old Racer Arena in 1971, a Murray State win.Â
The game finds both teams coming off losses as the Racers dropped an 85-81 overtime defeat Saturday at home to Evansville. Three Racers set career scoring marks in the game including, Bryce Jones (21 points), Wayne Langston (18 points) and Justin Seymour (17 points). MSU hit a season-best 10 3-point baskets with eight in the first half.  The Redbirds (3-6) are coming off back-to-back losses like the Racers. ISU lost at  home to UAB Saturday 74-61 and endured a tough road test at Kentucky (Nov. 30) which was a 75-63 loss.Â
The game at ISU is the second of three-straight games for the Racers again Missouri Valley Conference opponents. MSU hosts Southern Illinois (Dec. 18) at the CFSB Center. The Racers are 57-43 all-time against the current membership of the MVC and the loss to Evansville snapped an eight-game win streak against MVC teams.
Senior Jeffery Moss was honored before the UE game for recently joining the MSU 1000-Point Club. He was presented with a trophy basketball by Murray State's first 1000 point man Bennie Purcell, who reached the magic number in 1952. Moss is the 43rd Racer to reach 1,000 points,
One thing is certain at this point in the season, the Racers and Redbirds have each played challenging schedules. As the week began, Illinois State had the 28th hardest schedule according to the NCAA and the Racers had the 33rd toughest.Â
After Sunday's game at Illinois State, the Racers host the SIU Salukis Friday (Dec. 18) at 7 p.m. MSU's final game before Christmas is Dec. 22 at Wright State. MSU is at home to host Brescia (Dec. 30) before starting Ohio Valley Conference play at home against Morehead State (Jan. 2).
