With only three home games in the season, the Murray State Racers host the SIUE Cougars Thursday at 7 p.m. in the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. The game is available in free online streaming at OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
The Racers (21-4, 11-0 OVC) have the nation's second-longest winning streak of 19 after a road win Saturday at Austin Peay 82-72. SIUE (9-13, 5-6) dropped a 64-59 decision at UT Martin. These two met once (Jan. 24) in a hard-fought 60-54 win for the Racers on the Cougars home court.
MSU's amazing run since starting the season 2-4 coming out of Thanksgiving weekend has put them in position to earn just the second 20-game win streak in school history. The program record of 23 was not long ago in the 2011-12 season also under head coach Steve Prohm. Not only do the Racers have an impressive winning streak going, they also have other current win streaks including: 11 at home overall and 13 at home in OVC games. On the road MSU has won eight in a row overall and six-straight OVC games.
With much deserved attention given to Cameron Payne and Jarvis Williams. T.J. Sapp is living up to his All-OVC preseason nod as the Racers' third scoring option. Last week he averaged 23 points in the two wins and scored a career-high 27 points at Austin Peay. (22 points in the first half). For the week he hit 66 percent from the field and 55 percent from the 3-point line. Sapp was 93 percent from the free throw line. Â
Payne became the 41st Racer to reach 1,000 points in the UTM game (Jan. 30). Williams is 100 points from 1,000 and Jeffery Moss has 845 points.
Coach Steve Prohm is on the verge of being the fastest in program history to 100 career wins. Â Prohm is the only coach at MSU to begin his career with four straight 20-win campaigns.
The Racers have clinched their 28th straight winning season. MSU came into the season trailing only Syracuse, Kansas and Arizona. MSU's remarkable run has been accomplished by seven coaches.
