The Murray State Racers swing back into action Saturday when they host the Austin Peay Governors in a 1 p.m. tip at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. The CBS Sports Network will televise the game with John Sadak and Chris Walker calling the action.
There probably wasn't a team in the nation that needed a week where they play only one game more than the Racers. Recently they fought through a flu bug that affected and an emotional run in taking the Ohio Valley Conference Championship. MSU defeated Southeast Missouri State last Saturday in overtime to win the title. The Racers are using this week to get rest for tired legs and to get ready for the final three games of the regular season.
MSU has a chance to become just the fourth team in 67 seasons of OVC hoops to run the table and go undefeated. MSU is 13-0 after clinching their 24th league title. MSU has won four of the last six OVC titles. APSU was the last to do it in 2003-04. WKU did it the other three times in 1949-50, 65-66 and 69-70.
The Racers (23-4, 13-0 OVC) and Govs (7-19, 2-10 OVC) are meeting for the second time after MSU won the first meeting in Clarksville (Feb. 7) 82-72. MSU has won the last seven in the series since the Govs last win at MSU in 2011.
The Racers have the nation's second-longest winning streak of 21, behind only the Kentucky Wildcats who are 26-0. MSU's amazing run is two off the school and OVC record of 23 that was set at the start of the 2011-12 season.
Coach Steve Prohm is on the verge of being the fastest in program history to 100 career wins. Â Prohm is the only coach at MSU to begin his career with four straight 20-win campaigns.
The Racers finish up the regular season with Senior Night at home Thursday vs Eastern Illinois before they travel to UT Martin Saturday (Feb. 28).
