Steve Prohm vs EIU: 6-1
With their 24th Ohio Valley Conference championship already secured, the Murray State Racers look to take another step closer to becoming the fifth team in 67 seasons of OVC basketball to go undefeated. The Racers are also looking to extend their 22-game win streak, which is the second longest in the nation.
Head Coach Steve Prohm is looking for his 100th win in his fourth season at the helm of the Murray State program.
The Racers (24-4, 14-0 OVC) are meeting the Eastern Illinois Panthers (16-12, 9-4 OVC) on Senior Day when Jonathan Fairell, T.J. Sapp and Jarvis Williams are honored in the pregame.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. The game be viewed in free online video stream at the OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
The Racers have won 13 straight games at home since they lost to Houston in the season opener (Nov. 14). Â Another win will match the 14-game win streak the Racers had in 2001. MSU's all-time win streak of 47 was accomplished between the Coach Tevester Anderson and Coach Mark Gottfried eras from 1996 to 2000.Â
The first meeting between MSU and EIU (Jan. 22) in Charleston, Ill., turned out to be the Racers' 14th straight win. The 77-62 win was played in front of a sold out Lantz Arena when the Racers and Panthers were both undefeated in OVC play. MSU's Cameron Payne scored a career-high 33 points on 12-of-20 shooting
The Racers played one game last week and defeated Austin Peay 89-54 Saturday. EIU split a pair of games at home last week. They dropped on overtime loss 75-73 to UT Martin (Feb. 19), but came back Sunday and defeated Southeast Missouri 73-65. Â
MSU has a chance to become just the fourth team in 67 seasons of OVC hoops to run the table and go undefeated. Austin Peay was the last to do it in 2003-04. Western Kentucky did it the other three times in 1949-50, 65-66 and 69-70.
MSU plays the regular season final Saturday at UT Martin in a 6 p.m. tip.
