The Murray State Racers look to continue the nation's second-longest winning streak when they hit the road to face Ohio Valley Conference rival Austin Peay at the Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tenn. All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. The game is available in free online streaming at OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
The Racers (20-4, 10-0) have won 18 straight including a n 82-72 win over Southeast Missouri Thursday. The Governors (7-16, 2-7) dropped a home loss to UT Martin 76-64. The Racers are 7-1 since 2010 against APSU and have won their last four trips to the Dunn Center.Â
The Racers' success since their last loss Thanksgiving weekend has seen them go undefeated in December and January for the first time in school history. This week MSU moved to No. 5 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 and they received a pair of votes in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll. With the win Thursday over SEMO, the Racers extended their school-record with a sixth-straight 20-win season.
The Racers are led by All-America candidate Cameron Payne who became the 41st Racer to reach 1,000 points in the UTM game (Jan. 30). Payne is on of the watch list for both the Bob Cousy award for the nation's top point guard and the Lou Henson Award for the top mid-major player. He was the OVC's Preseason MVP after earning OVC Freshman of the Year.
Coach Steve Prohm is on the doorstep of 100 career wins and being the fastest to get there in program history. He is the only coach at MSU to begin his career with four straight 20-win campaigns.
The Racers have clinched their 28th straight winning season. The Racers came into the season trailing only Syracuse, Kansas and Arizona in this stat. MSU's remarkable run of winning seasons has been accomplished by seven different coaches since 1987.
The Racers have a three-game lead in the OVC with six games to play as they eye their 24th OVC championship and their fourth in the last six seasons.
